For four years, Dan Quayle teamed up with George Bush to tackle the tough issues and concerns of Ameri-can citizens.
But on Thursday, the former U.S. vice president was on a golf course tackling the best way to hit a "barkie-drinkie" on the second hole of the back nine of the annual Trashmaster's Golf Tournament in Snowmass Village.
A barkie-drinkie is a combination of two shots -hitting a tree and landing in the water. If done properly, it is worth four points.
The name of the game in the Trashrnaster's tourna-ment is to hit a number of unique shots that would nor-mally cause severe anguish to any goffer. Players earn points if they make par after the completion of the shots.
For Quayle, the shot would have been worth a total of four points, but the V.P. hit a perfect shot to the fair-way. It would have been celebrated by a standard golfer like Quayle, but was considered a bad shot in this fun-filled event.
Quayle, the celebrity invite to the tournament, scored 22 points. Before he started swinging, he said he was looking forward to playing.
"It sounded like it would be a good time and it's for a good cause," he said. "I was just glad to be a part of the tournament and had a good time."
Quayle said he got a crash course in the rules

of the game the night before the event.
"I was told about the rules of the game the night before," he said. 'I've heard of trash in golf, but I've never played in any tournament like this.'
After playing a couple of holes, he admitted it was tough to separate the trashy style of play away from the reality of golf.
"I'm not sure I'm really going to get nor do I want to get too accustomed to hitting in the sand, trees or water," he said. "But we will do it for one day and have a lot of laughs doing it.
"It's very unique and it's also a very different type of tournament. People play in golf tournaments a lot, but this is a very special one to try and get a lot of trash."
An avid golfer, Quayle said the tournament is some-thing that was an experience he won't soon forget.
