Mackenzie Langley – University of Denver 2016-2020
Last month I finished with my undergraduate coursework at the University of Denver. Over the past four years I have worked hard to get the most out of my education. During this time I have spent extensive hours studying to earn my degree in Sociology with a minor in writing and minor in entrepreneurship. During this same time I have expanded my knowledge about the world through experiential education, study abroad in Spain, and amazing internships. None of this would have been possible without the incredible generosity that all of you at Trashmasters have shown to me.
Graduating has been both exciting and a bit daunting. Considering the current climate of the world surrounding this pandemic it can be hard to know what tomorrow will look like, let alone next week, or next month. While the fears I may hold are justified, I continue to look optimistically at the path that lies ahead for me. I have accepted a teaching position in Spain come September. In Spain I will be teaching English to students in primary school. I’m excited about this next opportunity as studying in Spain provided me with immense personal growth and allowed me to learn about a culture and a language that I have come to love. In the event that health concerns persist into the fall, I look forward to pursuing a job in the non-profit sector so that I can continue to help others as you all have helped me.
Entering into my first year at DU in the fall of 2016 I was still newly injured and unsure about how to navigate my new normal. I had so many plans before my accident and couldn’t help but feel cheated. Having Trashmasters by my side throughout the past four years has allowed me to grow and to succeed in spite of the challenges I have encountered. So, thank you. Thank you for helping me pursue an education and thank you for letting me be a part of your special community of Aspen locals alongside my fellow scholarship recipients.
I look forward to the many years of partnerships with Trashmasters that are ahead of me!
Sincerely,
Mackenzie Langley
